Fat Girl Slim
(Part A)
First thing first, “fat” is not a decent way to describe me, but the facts are, I gained 6 kilos since last summer and they are not coming off no matter how much I try… Therefore, I’m starting to accept myself as the new “fat” me. But what I’m not willing to accept is how I look in my last season’s tight (won’t come up) jeans, my tiny blouses and my small sized beautiful dresses. Those outfits are just not flattering any more! The new non-satisfying state gave me a good reason to refresh my wardrobe and to go shopping; surely I needed a reason because I’m trying to save money.
Luckily, a style I call “maternity chic” provides me with the right solution to my status. I’m sure you are all familiar with this style, which is among us for several seasons and going to stick for the next summer of ‘09. This trend is characterized by puffed shapes, wide figures, over-sized volumes of every wearable item: the more material the better, the wider - the chicer.
![]() Brian Reyes There is an abundance of style choices and I would like to examine this stylish chic among the top designers who define it. Every designer interprets and uses their style to convey different looks. For some you can find a dramatic sculpted look to elegant and meticulous, and for others it’s loose and free summery style for a more casual look. There are also more unique and bizarre kinds of wide chic for the more courageous among you.
![]() Alberta ferretti This time I’ll begin with my favorite look - “The freely style” which every woman can indulge: Brian Reyes’s resort collection of 09 gives a light feeling, with bright pale colors of white, off-white, soft turquoise and orange. This kind of wideness provides a very soft look of young feminine elegancy, and it looks fun and wearable.
You can find more from this loose wonderful chic at Yigal Azrouel’s fall 08 collection and the Giorgio Armani’s resort 09 collection.
![]() Elie Saab If you are looking for wide chic evening dresses, Chloe, Iceberg and Alberta Ferretti support this style in a very flattering fall collections. However, my favorite collection is Elie Saab’s. His dresses are so inspiring, the fabrics and figures are fluently draped on the body, and convey elegance. In my opinion it is drawn from the 80’s and the early 90’s, with a more romantic modern touch. For next time: We’ll check how GUCCI uses this style.
